Food Poisoning: A Common Illness

In today's fast life, it is very common disease. Mostly it happens due to eating in social places , social functions, hotels etc. In restaurants and hotels food quality is not up to the mark. If you are habitual of eating in restaurants and hotels, you are more prone to get food poisoning. Consuming contaminated food items is main cause of food poisoning. It is also known as foodborne illness or disease.
It is an illness due to consuming bacteria or germs affected food items. These food items contain poisonous elements. Mild food poisoning is very common among us. But

severe food poisoning can be life threatening. Symptoms can be dehydration, diarrhea and stomach ache, loose motions etc.

Causes

We must avoid all the causes of food poisoning. Causes are as follows

Not being hygienic

* Fruits and vegetables are not washed properly.
* Half cooked meal especially non-vegetarian items
* Impure water
* Contaminated juices
* Food cooked in half or partially cleaned vessels
* Food cooked by a person who has not washed his hand properly
* Expired packaged food items

Bacteria & Germs 

Sometime bacteria and germs which you get from other persons also can be cause of food poisoning. Some bacteria and germs are as follows:
* E.coli

/> * Campylobacter jejuni
* Staphylococcus aureus
* Salmonella
* Shigella

Symptoms

There are some symptoms of food poisoning. These symptoms can be seen after 2-3 hours or in some cases after some days also depending upon the nature of food poisoning.

* Fever
* Headache
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Diarrhea (It may contain blood)
* Intestinal infection

Precautions

If you are seeing above symptoms consult a doctor and take medicines under his guidance. For getting the best result of treatment follow some tips:

1. Avoid market food items and dairy products.
2. Don't take milk and heavy items.
3. Take plenty of liquid edible items and avoid solid foods.
4. Avoid meat and non-vegetarian items.
5. Don't take alcoholic or sugary items.
6. Wash you hand properly before cooking food.
7. Eat hygienic food only.
8. Eat well cooked food only.
9. Fruits and vegetables must be washed properly before consuming.
10. Always check the expiry date of packaged food item. Don't buy expired date products.
